Specialty Areas: My areas of specialty include helping people overcome depression, anxiety, grief/loss, trauma, substance abuse, and issues related to sexuality. I also have expertise in the area of helping people manage weight and develop a positive body image. I work with adults and adolescents in individual, couple, family and group therapy.
Treatment Approach: Empathy and an ability to connect with others are at the heart of my work. I help people overcome the thoughts and behaviors that get in the way of life satisfaction. My work integrates both psychology and spirituality, and draws on a wide range of influences, including mindfulness and meditation practices. With an encouraging style, I help clients learn practical problem solving skills and access inner strength to bring about emotional healing.
Education/Experience: I am a Licensed Professional Counselor, having earned my Master’s degree from Fordham University in New York City. I have received further training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy from Einstein College of Medicine and in substance abuse treatment from The National Institute for the Psychotherapies, and have done research in the area of trauma recovery. I have considerable experience in group treatment and have led groups on a variety of topics, including grief recovery, weight management, overcoming addiction, career change, anger management, and relationship skills. I practiced in various settings in New York City and am currently in private practice at Mid-America Psychological Services, Portage, MI.
